A topic of discussion over our breakfast table this morning was "Why is the colonialist regime ready to enact policies which do such damage to its own economy and social stability?". The answer was because the colonialists can happily contemplate the dissolution of the colonialist state and its incorporation into the Commonwealth of Australia. When the Realm of New Zealand has been brought to its knees, what remains will be given to its big brother over the Tasman. Australia already controls New Zealand banks (the regime now plans to privatize Kiwibank to make that control incontestable), its major retail chains, insurance companies, New Zealand Steel and many other financial institutions and businesses. In state to state relations the regime follows every move and direction from Canberra with absolute fidelity. The intelligence and security forces of the two states are in lock step, and for all intents and purposes they function as a single entity. It is hard to see how much closer these two regimes could become. For tangata motu this presents a challenge. For our own survival we must bring the colonialist regime to an end, and as we do that we will inevitably come into conflict with the Commonwealth of Australia. Freedom for tangata motu means not only freedom from the colonialist regime, but also freedom from its US, UK and Australian overlords. That freedom can only be won through struggle and sacrifice.
