This is getting very thematic. NZ quietly defending a genocidal Israel through its actions here and overtly through the NZDF presence in the Red Sea. Double speak on calling for a Palestinian state but otherwise it’s all the way with USA. This National led coalition government is progressively ceding more sovereignty on foreign policy and security to the US, to improve the odds of it defeating China in a completely unnecessary and unjustified war of choice. NZ should have no part of it. It is the US who is the greatest threat to NZ sovereignty and independence. I recall the same type of double-speak after Luxon called a media stand-up announcing a pause in UNWRA funding pending a probe into Israeli claims. But then Mfat claimed the funding was never paused as it wasn't due for release until middle of the year.
This is a problem of the colonialist state as a whole, not just the National-led government. Labour governments did and would take the same line, actively pursuing the NATO alliance and giving unconditional support to the State of Israel. Nothing can change until New Zealand divests itself of its colonial status, fully establishing rangatiratanga and mana motuhake through te whakaminenga. Left-wingers claiming to want an "independent foreign policy" while continuing to pledge allegiance to the British King Charles III give just another example of the "double speak" complained about here. True independence for Aotearoa will come about through resumption of the nineteenth century wars of resistance against British rule, which may come sooner rather than later if the government persists with its present policies.
