That is a good example for other cities in Aotearoa to follow. The mood of the public is very much at odds with the actions and positions of the New Zealand government on the Gaza genocide, so it is clear that democracy is not working at the national level. Perhaps there can be a breakthrough at the local level.

Ka pai to John Minto and PSNA.nz and CCC. How hard can it be to oppose genocide not to mention apartheid and flagrant disregard for international law. Are our politicians and media bought off like those in the US and UK?

Totally support these moves not before time I wish we'd kept our foreign policy independent.

Slightly off topic: John Minto is wearing the exact same T-shirt that I bought at Pasifika Festival in Western Springs in 2003 or 2004, and which I still wear today.

Reminds me of the campaign to declare a nuclear free NZ . We packed out every Council meeting across the country asking for them to declare their city Nuclear Free. Could do the same!

Read some history with unblinkered eyes. Be aware that your fearless leader Minto is an intellectually challenged agitator and you are his sycophantic cheerleaders.

Shut up until you can genuinely claim you have read the history of the Middle East.

Remember also that if Israel falls, we in democratic countries will follow.

There is only one statement in your comment which allows a response. That being "If Israel falls, we in democratic countries will follow". Certainly there will be consequences for the world if Israel "falls". It all depends what one envisages in the "fall" of Israel. If it is the case that Israel's relentless expansion is curtailed, and its ability to inflict suffering upon neighbouring peoples is reduced, then the consequences will be good for Jew, Arab and gentile, but if Israel continues on its present course, which can only end in the complete destruction of the Jewish state, I do have fears for what may become of the Jewish people. However although "no man is an island" and all things are interconnected there is no reason to suppose that our own fate is inextricably linked with that of the Jews or any other people. We have autonomy. By the decisions that we make we will determine our own destiny. If we act morally, with humanitarian concern and compassion towards others, things will tend to go well for us.

Telling people to "shut up" and abusing others as "intellectually challenged" or "sycophantic" is no way to progress a dialogue, Helen. If you have concerns or questions, or genuine facts that you think are relevant and which you want to put on the record, I am sure that you are free to express them here.

Nobody needs to know history. Be here and now. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people including children have been a slaughtered and are being slaughtered as i write. Your distraction of history is dumb. NOWis when this is happening and NO history can justify it..NONE.

So you support Israel.. shame on you.

What an overtly bias opinion piece written by Mick Hall on Centrist. Of greater concern is Christchurch Council’s support for Hamas that on October 7 initiated this war by attacking Israeli unarmed young people at a music festival. And family groups in their homes.

Israeli women were gang raped, their bodies torn and pelvises broken, breasts mutilated. Other women taken to be sex slaves for Hamas men in dark tunnels under the earth. Some still in this living hell or over this year raped and starved to death.

In the settlements babies attacked, children tied together and burnt to death because….. they’re Jews.

Christchurch Council are fools. CCC allow men into women’s swimming groups forcing muslim women to never attend. Rape and abuse survivors must make way for men who think they’re women. A mental illness described in DSM-5-TR the international list of psychiatric illnesses.

Misogynists and fetishists given a license by CCC to force women and girls to be part of a his delusion, his fantasy or forsake the right to swim in baths their legally required rates maintain.

CCC get back to basics not social engineering.

Christchurch City Council is not supporting Hamas. The events of 7 October 2023 were not the beginning of the Israel-Palestine conflict. Israeli women were not raped on October 7. Jewish children were not tied together and burned to death. The world can be a harsh place, but the horrors recited above are figments of someone's imagination which you have allowed to take a place in your own mind, where they have become a source of deep anxiety.

You are just spewing Israeli propaganda lies. Every word you say about 7oct is a lie, proven and debunked months ago. You are supporting a terrorist regime committing genocide.

How low can you go?
